"The unexamined life is not worth living"

Hey Bloggy Buddies! Today Mr. Schick showed us his future tattoo- I mean..... a meaningful quote! (That may later become a tattoo...) Haha. Anyway, I found this quote intriguing and since we didn't get to spend a lot of time talking about it, I'd thought I expand upon it here. Enjoy! <3

"The unexamined life is not worth living". I believe this means that an individual's life is invalid or without value if they do not scrutinize the very meaning of why they're living and breathing each day. Some may say that this means that you must "do something with your life", but I disagree. If you look up the exact definition for the word 'examine', it says that it means that one "inspects (someone or something) in detail to determine their nature or condition; investigates thoroughly." In my interpretation, I believe Socrates is saying that one must ponder one's own life meaning is order to achieve the full meaning of life itself. We are all part of one big puzzle. (The puzzle representing the full meaning of life.) Each of us; a small piece; broken and bent in certain spots, but those indents allow us to be close to others. An unexamined life is almost like what the Greeks would interpret to be an idiot; self absorbed, unaware of his/her surroundings. An individual with an unexamined life may not even be able to understand their own worth. "There's millions of others just like me," they may think, "What makes me so special?" What they don't realize is, you can't cut or bend a puzzle piece to make it fit with another. Just like people. There's only one me and one you. People can try their hardest to look like you, or talk like you, or act like you, but the truth of the matter is that we are changing everyday. Especially now, as highschoolers. This is the most important time to examine our lives and their meanings. We're still figuring out who we are, so we probably couldn't even imitate ourselves if we tried. We each have our own meaning. Our own purpose. And until we realize that, the puzzle of life will be forever incomplete.
